when the baobab shakes: A final call to defend our democracy

By Comrade Jumbe – A Voice for the Voiceless

A GOAT THAT REFUSES TO LISTEN SHEPHERD’S VOICE MUST MEET THE HYENA

They say, “When the moon forgets to rise, the stars become restless.” And today, Malawi’s stars — her sons and daughters of courage — must not rest.

The wind smells of betrayal, the ground trembles with manipulation, and the air is heavy with lies from MEC.

To every opposition party, to every activist with a burning heart, to every civil rights defender whose bones remember the pain of dictatorship, and to every citizen who still believes in freedom — this is the hour.

If you don’t hear from me, then hear it from the birds — “The swallow sings loudest when the rains of injustice approach.”

We warned MEC ,We begged them with reason. We approached with dignity. But a goat that refuses the shepherd’s voice must meet the hyena.

We said: “Be fair, be transparent, be honest.” But their ears were filled with the gold of corrupt promises and their eyes blinded by party loyalty.

This is not the time for conferences. This is not the time for podiums. This is the time for action and COURAGE.

The signs are clear — MCP wants to twist the arm of the election. But we shall not fold. We shall not kneel. We shall not sleep. For “a man who fold arms while his country is burning will never be forgiven by the future generations.” Let us rise now, or forever hold our regrets.

If MCP uses mafiesto laws as a hiding place, then let we the people use our numbers as a weapon of truth.

Let us flood the courts with injunctions. Let us flood the streets with voices. Let us fill every corner of Malawi with one sound — “We will not be ruled by theft!”

This country does not belong to Chakwera. It does not belong to Chimwendo. This land is soaked with the dreams of our ancestors and the blood of our martyrs.

“A hyena that wears a lion’s skin will still be eaten by vultures.” Those who abuse democracy today will choke on their arrogance tomorrow.

We are calling for a 5 million-man peaceful march. From Mzuzu to Mangochi, from Nsanje to Nkhata Bay, let the people shut down the nation — not in violence, but in unity. This is the sweetness of democracy: a people refusing to be silenced.

“When the drum is beaten too long, even the deaf will begin to hear.”

MEC must hear us now. MCP must see us now. The world must witness us now. We are not rebels — we are guardians of our democracy.

Let this be written in the winds:

If they rig, we resist.
If they silence, we sing louder.
If they ignore us, we shut it down.

Because “when the baobab shakes, even the leopard runs.” And today, we shake the baobab.
