Chief Phweremwe Decries Government’s Delay in Restoring Power at Msukansanje Clinic

Reported by Suleman Chitera

Traditional Authority Phweremwe of Phalombe District has raised concerns over the government’s failure to restore electricity at Msukansanje Health Centre, saying the situation is negatively affecting expectant mothers in the area.

According to the chief, the clinic’s power supply was disrupted by Cyclone Freddy in 2023 and has not yet been repaired.

Speaking during a political rally organized by the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), the chief lamented the continued deterioration of infrastructure in the area, urging the government to act swiftly.

“The Chiringa-Muloza road was also damaged after rockslides from Mulanje Mountain blocked it, making transportation and trade difficult for people in Phalombe, Mulanje, and even parts of Mozambique,” said Chief Phweremwe.

In response, Brown Mpinganjira of the MCP said the chief’s message would be delivered to President Lazarus Chakwera for urgent attention and possible intervention in addressing the challenges.
