The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) says it has drawn key lessons from its time out of government and is prepared to return with improved leadership if Malawians vote for the party in the September 16 elections.

Speaking at a rally, senior party official Ben Phiri acknowledged past mistakes, citing examples such as vehicles carrying number plates written “Ana a Dad.” He said such practices were wrong and will not be repeated. Phiri also added that the party intends to reduce the size of convoys that accompany the party president.

Former minister Mary Navitcha also echoed this message, stressing that the DPP has taken time to reflect on its own governance record and has also learned from what she described as the mistakes made by the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP). She said the party is committed to correcting all past errors to deliver better governance.

Meanwhile, party spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba expressed confidence that the DPP is on course to win the elections. He said the overwhelming support the party is receiving across the country shows that Malawians are ready for change.

With just days left before the polls, the DPP has positioned its campaign on promises of humility, reform, and responsible leadership.
