As the country heads towards one of the most competitive elections, political parties are intensifying their campaign activities in a bid to win the confidence of voters. Shadow Malawi Congress Party (MCP) councillors are also reaching out to communities to sell their manifestos and development plans.
On 9th September 2025, Shadow MCP councillor Hon. Bruno Daka held a mega rally at Senior Group Village Headman Dziwe Ground in Traditional Authority Chadza, Lilongwe Mpenu Constituency. The event drew a large crowd of community members who came to interact with the aspiring leader.
During the meeting, Senior Group Village Headman Chingayere urged the shadow councillor to remember the community once elected into office and to bail them out of the many problems they have been facing since the dawn of multiparty democracy. He lamented that no councillor or Member of Parliament had ever addressed their challenges, despite repeated promises.
The chief highlighted several issues, including the lack of potable water. He noted that “twenty-four villages are depending on only two boreholes, which themselves are not reliable.” He further complained about the absence of proper roads and bridges, which makes it difficult for people to travel, especially during the rainy season.
Another concern raised was the lack of nearby markets. According to the chief, farmers are forced to sell their produce to vendors who exploit them by offering unfair prices. “We want leaders who will create markets close to us so that our people can trade fairly,” he said.
In response, Hon. Bruno Daka assured the gathering that, once elected, he would bring meaningful development to the area. He emphasized that they should not worry because MCP under President Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership has proven its ability to deliver. He also expressed confidence that Hon. Eisenhower Mkaka and other MCP candidates would work hand-in-hand to address these acute problems.
Daka criticized past leaders for neglecting the area, warning the people against repeating the same mistakes during the forthcoming elections. “Mphechepeche mwa njovu sapitamo kawiri,” he warned, meaning that one should not fall into the same trap twice. He encouraged the community to vote wisely and choose leaders who have a genuine interest in development.
The rally was part of Hon. Daka’s ongoing efforts to engage with communities in his ward and to mobilize support ahead of the 16th September polls. All eyes now remain fixed on election day to see which candidates will emerge victorious and whether the people’s call for development will finally be answered.
