There was excitement in Nkhotakota on Saturday as the launch ceremony for the Suwed Cup took place at the Lozi Primary School sports ground.

The colorful event attracted football fans and community members who gathered to witness the official unveiling of the tournament, which is expected to boost grassroots football development in the district.

Various entertainment activities were lined up during the ceremony, including performances by bodybuilders and live music entertainment from popular Malawian artist , who also delivered the tournament trophy to Nkhotakota.

Speaking during the event, tournament sponsor Ibrahim Suwed said he has injected K24.5 million into the competition to ensure its success. He added that 28 teams have already registered to take part in the tournament.

The Suwed Cup is expected to provide a platform for local talent to showcase their abilities while promoting unity and sports development in Nkhotakota District.
