
Chithyola Banda Calls for Protection, Compensation for Malawians Affected by South Africa Attacks

Speaking on the matter, Chithyola Banda said Malawians have made significant contributions to South Africa’s development over the years, making the reported ill-treatment of Malawian nationals deeply unfortunate.
He also noted that several South African companies operate successfully in Malawi with support from Malawian consumers and workers, saying the relationship between the two countries should be based on mutual respect.

Despite the attacks, Chithyola Banda emphasized that Malawians should not retaliate, instead calling for diplomatic engagement between the two governments.

The opposition leader further urged the government to provide comprehensive assistance to Malawians returning home, saying support for returnees should be included in the national budget to facilitate their reintegration.
His remarks come as Malawi continues to receive citizens returning from South Africa following reports of xenophobic violence targeting foreign nationals, prompting renewed calls for stronger diplomatic intervention and humanitarian support.
