
Government Commits K600 Million as FAM Launches K1 Billion Fundraising Drive

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has revealed that the Malawi Government has committed K600 million towards the Scorchers’ participation at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals in Morocco.

Haiya said the government’s contribution demonstrates its commitment to supporting women’s football and ensuring the national team is well-prepared for the prestigious continental tournament.
He disclosed that despite the government’s financial support, FAM is seeking to raise an additional K1 billion to fully finance the team’s campaign in Morocco.

The fundraising dinner has brought together government officials, corporate leaders, football stakeholders and well-wishers in a united effort to mobilise resources for the national women’s team.
“The government has already committed K600 million for the Scorchers’ participation at the 2026 WAFCON finals in Morocco,” Haiya announced, while urging the private sector and individuals to support the association’s fundraising initiative.
The Scorchers qualified for the 2026 WAFCON after an impressive qualifying campaign, earning the right to compete among Africa’s top women’s national teams. FAM believes adequate financial support will enable the players and technical staff to prepare thoroughly and compete effectively against the continent’s best teams.
The association remains optimistic that it will achieve its K1 billion fundraising target before the team departs for Morocco, ensuring the Scorchers have the resources required to represent Malawi with pride on the continental stage.
