First Lady Attends Save The Children’s Project Conference

Malawi’s First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera is attending a Save the Children Dissemination Conference on outcomes of a sponsorship programme the organisation has been implementing in Zomba.

The Save the Children Sponsorship Programme started in 2008 and has improved the learning environment in Zomba District starting from early childhood development to secondary education.

In Zomba, the overall average Primary school attendance rate increased by 19.65%.

The program also boasts of pioneering a reading programme that has been integrated into the Ministry of Education’s National Reading Programme.

Save the Children invests about K2.6 billion in the programme every year.

As the programme winds up in Zomba, Save the Children is expected to replicate it in Ntcheu District. The programme in Ntcheu is expected to run for the next five years.
