Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Club is today painting Blantyre City blue with several activities to mark the official launch of the 2023 season. The activities will start this morning with a street parade from Kamuzu Stadium to Desert Ground in Bangwe Township (The Home of Wanderers), where some activities will take place. The parade will return to Limbe, before proceeding to Blantyre Market for more activities. The day will reach its climax this evening at Mount Soche Hotel where the club will renew its sponsorship agreement with Mukuru and sign a new deal with Ekhaya Farm Foods. The club will in the evening also unveil its 2023 season squad, honour some former players and officials among other things.

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers are this year's champions of the Airtel Top 8 Cup after defeating holders Nyasa Big Bullets via post-match penalties. The two sides played a goalless draw at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe. This is also the first medal for the English Mentor, Mark Harrison who has registered six consecutive wins. The Wanderers converted all their five spot kicks while Kesten Simbi missed for the Peoples team. The win for nomads is the first against their rivals this season out of four outings. Under the new coach, Nomads have played six matches without conceding a goal. Wanderers have pocketed K17 million while runners-up went home with K6 million.

The club’s board president Thomson Mpinganjira, who doubles as board chairperson, said this in an interview yesterday after the club’s supporters committee withdrew its letter of protest to the board secretary Chancy Gondwe over the club’s decision to distance itself from disciplinary charges levelled against it.
