Veep Plane search and rescue team is expected to continue today

The search and rescue team is expected to continue today after failing to locate a Malawi Defence Force Aircraft Number MAF TO3 yesterday.

The plane had Vice President Saulosi Chilima and nine others on board to Mzuzu to attend the funeral of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, the late Ralph Kasambara.

The plane reportedly lost contact after being unable to land at Mzuzu International Airport due to bad weather and was advised to return to Lilongwe.

The search team is currently in Chikangawa Forest trying to locate it.

The nine other individuals on board include Lukas Kapheni, Chisomo Chimaneni, Gloria Mtukule, Shanil Dzimbiri, Dan Kanyemba, Abdul Lapukeni, Colonel Sambalopa, Major Selemani, and Major Aidin.

President Lazarus Chakwera described the situation as heartbreaking and assured that the government is doing everything possible to locate the plane, and that all the passengers onboard will be found alive.

Chakwera told the nation last night that neighboring countries and international partners, including the US, UK, Norway, and Israel, are offering support and specialised technology to aid in the search.

Meanwhile, former President, Peter Mutharika and other political parties have called upon Malawians to join hands in prayer for the safe return of Chilima and others.

We will keep you updated as events surrounding the matter unfold.
