Who Should Receive Credit For MCP Win In All 3 Wards In Karonga

On Tuesday last week Malawi electrol commission conducted byelections in Kaporo, Chilanga and Rukuru wards in the northern border district of Karonga.

According to MEC Chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale, 21 candidates competed for seats.

Alick Ng’oma is the newly elected councillor for Chilanga Ward after getting 1516 votes.

Gift Kumbukani Mwale will represent Rukuru Ward after obtaining 5854 votes while King Ngayambimba Mvula is the new councillor for Kaporo Ward after scooping 1662 votes.

A week after the results were announced the question many are asking is who should receive the credit for MCP win?

Surprisingly we have seen supporters of Homeland security minister showing praises to their man that the win in Karonga is because of him.

They have even went further asking delegates to MCP August convention to vote for him as MCP VP basing on his success.

Unlike other districts, Karonga voters don’t look at a political party, they look at the individual candidate. In Karonga they don’t look at the party, they look at the individual, umakhala bwanji ndi anthu, anthu akwanu makhalidwe awo ndi wotani, uli ndi mtima woti mkuthandiza anthu kapena ayi, Mfundo zako ndi zotani. The Karonga people are very smart and totally different from people of Malembo and Goliati who only look at Tambala wakuda or pamene pali chimanga basi.

MCP knew this very well and as a result they presented popular people among the communities hence the win. MCP candidates had a better record than DPP candidates.

Another factor Karonga people looks beyond the candidates. They scrutinize the campaign team. If you presented campaign team yoti ili ndi track record Yakuba , ya ukhuluku just know candidate wanu sawina.

Amond DPP campaign team there was one Simfukwe, former councillor who was convicted and luckily got acquitted by the court. Karonga People did not want anything to do with that guy. They have issues with him and presenting him in a campaign team was suicidal for DPP.

Karonga people always want campaign team yomwe ilibe mbiri Yakuba, katangale etc.
So, who should receive the credit for MCP win in Karonga?

Without fear or favor, Karonga people should receive the credit for showing us all voting beyond party politics.
