World Bank Staff Donates To Mother Fun Run

World Bank staff have contributed K1 165 000 to the this year’s Mother’s Fun Run (MFR)—a safe motherhood initiative by Nation Publications Limited (NPL) which mobilises funds for lifesaving medical equipment in public health facilities.

The fun run is scheduled for Dowa on November 5, where patrons will take eight and five kilometre runs for the sake of Dowa mothers and newborns.

While presenting the cheque on behalf of the staff today, World Bank country manager Hugh Riddel commended them for the contributions made towards the initiative.

In her remarks, NPL chief executive officer Mbumba Banda was optimistic that the contribution will help the situation in the maternity wing at Dowa District Hospital and its health facilities.

About K88 million has been mobilised for this year’s MFR fundraising drive aimed at saving the lives of mothers and new-borns in childbirth.

The assorted medical equipment that has been purchased, which include blood pressure machines, medical gowns, ultrasound machines, autoclave machines, delivery beds, infant resuscitaires, wheelchairs and an oxygen concentrator among others, will help to improve the availability and quality of health infrastructure and medical equipment in the district.
