As the ministry of National Unity continue with its engagement meetings with different stakeholders on the just passed Unity Bill, chiefs in Neno have today asked the ministry to review its stand to accommodate only chiefs with degrees into the National Peace Commission.
For example, Senior Chief Dambe and Traditional Authority Mlauli say the move will likely limit their involvement in solving national conflicts as they feel sidelined.
But deputy director in the ministry, Dyton Kang’oma says low qualified chiefs will be accommodated in district peace committees to ensure their continued involvement in conflict management.
The just passed bill has been in the shelves since 2012 when the country was rocked in a political conflict championed by civil society organizations.
