Police at Kawale in Lilongwe are keeping in custody a 20-year-old Kabaza operator, Ospino Maxwell Enock, for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old master’s daughter.
Kawale Police Spokesperson Sub-inspector Mabvuto Phiri has confirmed the arrest saying the suspect committed the offence on April 5, 2022 at Mtande Village close to Kamuzu Barracks Range Forest within Kang’oma outskirts.
“It is reported that the suspect was employed as Kabaza operator and on this particular day, he was sent to the maize mill by his employer accompanied by the victim, who is a daughter to his employer.
“The journey to Kang’oma Trading Centre went on well but when coming back the rider stopped at a nearby bush which is situated between Kamuzu Barracks Range and their village.
“The suspect dragged the girl and defiled her only to be rescued by a man who was passing by,” Phiri said.
Enock being caught in the act sensed danger and he then offered the man money to silence him, but his efforts proved futile as the matter was brought to the attention of the parents who made a report to Kang’oma Police.
The victim was issued with a referal report for examination at Kang’oma Heath Centre where the results came out positive.
Detectives from Kang’oma and Area 23 Police had a joint operation which led to his arrest.
The suspect hails from Chidamlodza Village in the area of Traditional Authority Tsabango in Lilongwe and he will appear before court soon to answer a charge of defilement contrary to Section 137 of the Penal Code.
