Critics are pressing for further probe and stern action on allegations of official abuse and criminality by the Roads Authority – RA Board.
The parastatal’s entire board has been sacked following an inquiry that confirmed failure to observe and perform duties in conformity with the Roads Authority Act.
The inquiry exposed serious financial and corporate governance anomalies including obvious delays to commence and complete road projects as well as poor workmanship during road construction projects.
Other anomalies include misprocurement of services, exorbitant claims and unnecessary interest claims leading to avoidable loss of resources.
While calling for prosecution of implicated persons, Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation – CHRR executive director, Michael Kaiyatsa as well as Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives – CDEDI executive director, Sylvester Namiwa wants the authorities to extend the probe to the RA management.
