
MDF Soldier, Immigration Officer Arrested For Aiding Ethiopians To Enter In The Country Illegally
Police in the Northern Region have arrested a Malawi Defence Force soldier at Chilumba and an Immigration officer at Karonga for allegedly assisting Ethiopians to enter the country illegally.
Northern Region Police spokesperson Maurice Chapola has identified the suspects as Brown Juma Banda from Chilumba Barracks and Daiton Msukwa from Karonga Immigration office.
The cops have also nabbed a civilian, Kunje China, who hails from the lakeshore border district.
The arrests have happened few days after President Lazarus Chakwera and Paramount Chief Kyungu of Karonga spoke against aiding foreign nationals to enter the country illegally.

The two spoke at a development rally Chakwera held in the district.
“I can only confirm the arrest and we are going to give more information when we are done with our investigations, which are currently underway,” Chapola said.
According to the police, the immigrants were being kept in the house of the third suspect, China.
