Following the failed attempts by the Government to meet former Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe and Reserve Bank Governor Dr Dalitso Kabambe to discuss the economic catastrophe that the country is experiencing, the Public Affairs Committee- PAC has stepped in and is scheduled to meet the immediate former President Prof Arthur Peter, Mutharika on the same.
The quasi-religious body’s Chairperson Robert Phiri has confirmed the development saying the meeting is slated to take place on Friday 20th May at Mutharika’s PAGE house in Mangochi.
The meeting comes at a time when the country is in an economic crisis following the mismanagement of public finances by the Chakwera administration.
Phiri said among others the committee will implore Prof Mutharika to disregard political differences but come in to lecture Dr Chakwera with economic strategies that will help turn around the economy.
This morning rumours were rife that President Chakwera extended an invitation to the country’s macroeconomic maestros Goodall Gondwe and Dr Dalitso Kabambe asking them to be part of a team expected to meet the International Monetary Fund-IMF delegation next week in a bid to convince the team to retain Malawi on an Economic Credit Facility program which the Tonse Alliance led Governement terminated in 2020 citing change in economic policies.
Some reports indicate that Gondwe declined the invitation while Dr Kabambe sent some demands to be fulfilled by Dr Chakwera.
