M1 REHABILITATION STARTS THIS MONTH
The £117 million (K148.2 billion) rehabilitation works of the M1 road from Kamuzu International Airport junction in Lilongwe to Chiweta in Karonga start this month.
The government contracted four companies to undertake the job simultaneously.
According to the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, Kelvin Sato, the five contractors will share the stretch and commence works at the same time to ensure easy supervision.
The construction companies include China Jiangxi International together with Jiangxi Transport Limited to construct a stretch from KIA junction to Kasungu Boma, Mota Engil to work from Kasungu Boma up to Jenda, Unik Construction Engineering Limited from Jenda to Mzimba turn off and from Kacheche up to Chiweta, it will be China Henan International Co. Limited.
Sato said when the construction is completed, it will boost socio-economic activities across the districts along the M1 Road.
