The Criminal Investigations Department and Interpol Department are yet to update the Malawi Police on the progress made so far regarding the arrest and repatriation of Ben Longwe from South Africa.
Deputy National Police Spokesperson Harry Namwaza has confirmed the development; saying commencement of criminal proceedings will happen once Longwe is in the country.
Police want Longwe in Malawi to face criminal charges following his recent audio that reportedly threatened to torch court buildings as well as homes and vehicles for judicial officers over alleged selective justice.
Longwe co-chairs a local rights group, Human Rights Ambassadors, which has since shifted its planned protests initially slated for this week Thursday to 20th July 2022.
One of the lead organizers, Kingsley Mpasu says they want to ensure peace as Standard 8 candidates sit for their examinations.
Among others, the grouping wants President Lazarus Chakwera to step down for allegedly failing to fulfil campaign promises and the economic crisis but also petition the judiciary against what it describes as selective justice.
