MBC DG George Kasakula who is well known for bullying his subordinates at Times and firing them at will, is at it again, now even with more power and without mercy.
Kasakula ordered the suspension of Acting Controller of Programs (TV) Emmanuel Thuwala for alleged insubordination.
According to some MBC sources, Thuwala, who replaced Steven Maseya on the position in an acting capacity, stepped on the toes of Kasakula after he sent Saul Rashid and Stanley Kadzuwa to Neno where President Lazarus Chakwera was launching the National Youth Service, last week Tuesday.
This got Kasakula infuriated because the two are on the list of some blacklisted “cadets” who are not supposed to cover Presidential functions.
Thuwala has been sent on suspension pending disciplinary hearing.
Apart from Thuwala, Kasakula also demoted Wilson Kumtambila from Controller of Engineering to Chief Engineer.
Kumtambira was demoted after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty for failing in his duty as Controller of Engineering where MBC failed to beam a Super League game at Kamuzu Stadium due to some technical problems. This according to Kasakula was taken as sabotage hence whipping Kumtambira with the suspension.
Next on the list is Arthur Chokotho, who will soon be appearing before a disciplinary committee for asking President Chakwera “an embarrassing question” during the inauguration of the National Data Center in Blantyre last week, Thursday.
“Chokotho was not part of the MBC Outside Broadcast crew on the day, but we were all surprised to see him on set as reporter and in the process asked the President a question live on TV where the president failed to answer properly,” explained our source .
This did not please Minister of Information Gospel Kazako who called Kasakula who was in Namibia expressing his lack of amusement.
Kasakula has meanwhile ordered that Chokotho be subjected to a hearing on the same.
Ironically, Chokotho and Thuwala were part of those that were favoured as Tonse alliance sympathizers where they were programs that were dubbed another version of Hope Chisanu and Steven Maseya on MBC TV.
Since he became MBC DG, Kasakula has been sending people on transfers, demoting them, while others have been blacklisted.
He has also been calling some “cadets” to his office issuing them with threats and denying them opportunities.
Kasakula is also failing to confirm those that were given acting positions replacing the likes of Maseya for almost two years now.
