Today, I paid a courtesy visit and cheered former commissioner of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Ms.Linda Kunje, who is remanded at the Mikuyu Prison in Zomba, awaiting sentencing by the Magistrate’s court .
Ms. Kunje was convicted by the Court last Friday for obstructing President Lazarus Chakwera’s convoy.
I found Ms. Kunje in a positive mood and she thanked the prison staff and senior officials for being professional in their work and according me an opportunity to cheer her .
Ms.Kunje is due to appear in court for sentencing on Tuesday.

This type of case is very uncommon in Malawi. I can only remember the recent case in neighbouring Zambia where the current President of Zambia, President Hichilema, was similarly prosecuted for obstructing former President Lungu’s convoy.
We wish Ms.Linda Kunje all the best.
Thank you all!
