Fuel scarcity has hit most filling stations in Karonga district with motorists still queueing to purchase the commodity this (Thursday) evening.
Masida Sichali, who runs a taxi motorbike, tells Rainbow Online that the situation has affected their business as they are forced to refuel through black market where they are paying a thousand extra (about K3000) for a litter.
“We have temporarily hiked out prices to match with how we are getting the fuel at which most people are complaining that it is expensive,” he says.
We have further established that some taxi motorbike operators are now charging in the range of K1000 and K1500 a 4-kilometre distance that usually fetches K500.
