The Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Malawi National Council of Sports, has organised a sports indaba and gala dinner to be held in Lilongwe on Thursday, 22 September 2022 and Friday, 23 September 2022 respectively.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Richard Chimwendo Banda, announced this during a presser in Lilongwe.
Chimwendo Banda said the purpose of the Indaba is for all stakeholders to brainstorm on how best sports can be rejuvenated in the country.
“We recognise that this will be the first-ever event to take place in the country and that it is an event that will yield the results that we want in our quest to develop sports in the country. We have, therefore, put in place a special Committee, led by Gladson Kuyeri.
“He is a Board Member of the Sports Council. We have done this to efficiently organise the event with assistance from various stakeholders who may be required depending on their areas of specialisation and expertise,” Chimwendo Banda said.
He said the Sports Awards Gala is aimed at recognising and encouraging outstanding performing sports persons as one way of motivating them to improve their performance.
The event will be attended by various stakeholders in Malawi.
Chairperson for the Malawi National Sports Council, Sunduzwayo Madise, described the move as a milestone in the improvement of various sports disciplines in Malawi.
