Parliament Meets Petroleum Stakeholders Over Fuel Crisis

A Joint Parliamentary Committee is meeting officials from the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA), National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) and other stakeholders from the energy sector to discuss how the country can come out of the current fuel crisis.

Led by the Ministry of Energy, the discussions at Parliament are also being attended by MERA Chief Executive Officer, Henry Kachaje, and NOCMA acting Chief Executive Officer, Hellen Buluma.

The meeting comes on the heels of weeks of fuel scarcity in the country’s major cities that has affected many businesses and disrupted public transport services.

The committee wants the stakeholders to update the joint committee on what they are doing to make sure the problem of fuel scarcity normalises.

The Joint Committee comprises committees of natural resources, statutory corporations, trade and industry, transport and infrastructure development.
