Consumers will have to dig deeper into their pockets to put food on their tables as Maize prices continue to go up in most parts of the country.

Random checks show that a kilogram of maize in Mangochi, Balaka, Salima and Nkhotakota is now selling at K500, translating to K25,000 per 50-Kilogram bag.

In Lilongwe, Mulanje and Zomba, the staple grain is selling at an average of K400 per kilogram.

Apart from Maize, rice prices have also been adjusted upwards with a Kilogram now selling at an average of K1600 per kilogram, up from an average of K1,200 two months ago.
