If Mr President Is Clean Fire Homeland Minister Jean Sendeza and IG Merlyn Yolamu,

SOME PEOPLE ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN CHAKWERA

Cruelessness and drama surrounding the questionable arrest of the Anti-Corruption Bureau-ACB’s director general, Martha Chizuma show there is a group of people in government more powerful than President Lazarus Chakwera.

Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives-CDEDI Executive Director, Sylvester Namiwa has said this at a media briefing in Lilongwe this morning; adding it clearly proves the Tonse administration’s leadership has lost track.

He further describes the instituted Commission of Inquiry on Chizuma’s arrest as a waste of time and taxpayers money when the issue is straight forward.

“There is no assurance that the results of such an inquiry will be made public as there are some reports of the past inquiries which are yet to be released,” said Namiwa in reference to the Public Sector Reforms report and another one on the attacks, abductions and killings of persons with albinism in Malawi.

Again, CDEDI says the suspension of Steven Kayuni as Director of Public Prosecutions is a mockery to the intelligence of Malawians; insisting the president knows the whole truth on the issue.

“If the president claims to be clean enough in this saga, let him fire the Homeland Security Minister Jean Sendeza and the Inspector General of Police Merlyn Yolamu,” argues Namiwa.

But yesterday, President Chakwera said any wrongdoers who have abused their offices in this incident must be held accountable.

Police arrested Chizuma around 4am on Tuesday following a complaint from the suspended Kayuni that she injured him in her leaked audio in January this year where she discussed office matters with someone outside the ACB

Pressured, government announced in Parliament her unconditional release from police cell and withdrawal of charges levelled against her.

This is an issue that has put the Chakwera administration on spotlight on its alleged serious commitment to fight against corruption as the country’s donors and development partners have condemned the manner in which the ACB boss was arrested.
