Opposition Democratic Progressive Party-DPP has reinstated reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira as its northern region governor.
In 2020, Mzimba Senior Resident Magistrate Court sentenced Ngwira to four years imprisonment over abuse of the Constituency Development Fund when he was serving as Member of Parliament for Mzimba Hora Constituency.
But in May this year, Ngwira was released from prison.

Mzuzu High Court judge, Chimwemwe Kamowa made the ruling following Ngwira’s appeal against his conviction and sentence.
DPP spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba says the party has concluded that the offence for Ngwira’s conviction does not disqualify him from holding a position in the party.
