Local Government, Unity and Culture Minister, Richard Chimwendo Banda has decried the tendency of seeking court interventions when chieftaincy wrangles arise; saying the trend is hindering the country’s developments and progress.

He shared the assertions when he presided over the elevation and installation of Senior Chief M’duwa and Traditional Authority in Mchinji respectively on Thursday.

“Once the court delivers a judgement on a particular misunderstanding, the losers do not support and participate in development activities,” observed Banda.

For instance, the minister disclosed their received restriction court orders not install Traditional Authority Zulu and Nyoka.

Again, Chimwendo Banda said the Chakwera administration would not tolerate chiefs who want bring confusion among their subjects; warning the law will catch up with them irrespective of their political affiliations.

In his remarks, Senior Chief Dambe stressed that issues of chieftaincy are from blood hence government should not have a hand in resolving wrangles when they emerge.

He also appealed to the line ministry to install and elevate more chiefs to facilitate national development.

Wiliam Banda has been elevated from Sub-Traditional Authority M’duwa to Senior Chief M’duwa while Melida Banda has been installed as Traditional Authority Mkanda following the death of Ackim Tumizani Phiri in July 2022.
