Activist Agape Khombe returns to court in Lilongwe this morning as hearing of his defilement case continues after being remanded to Maula Prison on May 25 this year.
He is being accused of defiling and impregnating a 16-year old girl; a case that has attracted the interest of child rights activists.
In the last court appearance, Khombe’s lawyer, Khwima Mchizi applied for bail but Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda declined.
The state through Lilongwe Police Station Prosecution Officer Assistant Superintendent Richard Kandeya asked for additional days to finalize investigations.
Police arrested Khombe on May 22, 2023. Currently, defilement attracts up to life imprisonment. Khombe hails from Khombe Village, Traditional Authority Chakhadza in Dowa District
