President Lazarus Chakwera has returned home via Kamuzu International Airport from his European working tour to the Vatican, Italy, and the Federal Republic of Germany respectively.
Chakwera was welcomed by Vice President Michael Usi and other high-ranking government officials.
Speaking to the journalists, Chakwera described his trip as a prominent success, emphasizing the strategic benefits Malawi stands to gain from strengthening international relations.
In Mozambique, he noted the ever-improving ties between the two nations, highlighting agreements aimed at bolstering Malawi’s energy supply, which will positively impact the entire country.
He shared his meaningful interactions with the Pope at the Vatican and other Italian officials, noting that they are actively praying for Malawi and supporting its progress.
In Germany, Chakwera detailed the signing of several key agreements to rejuvenate Malawi’s marine infrastructure. He also highlighted a groundbreaking deal in which Mzuzu University will collaborate with a German investor to construct a power plant.
His trip culminated in a fruitful bilateral meeting with the German President, who extended an invitation for a state visit, further solidifying the strong relationship between the two nations.
President Chakwera left the country on 14 August 2024, for a two-day visit to Mozambique, where he was conferred an honorary Doctorate Degree in International Cooperation for Democracy.
