Former president and leader of the People’s Party (PP), Joyce Banda, says Malawians can rise above the economic and social challenges they are currently facing if she is elected in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking at a political rally in Mangochi on Friday, Banda emphasized that her administration had previously tackled similar issues successfully and assured supporters that her party has plans to do so again. The event was held in partnership with other political parties aligned with PP.

“The challenges we are facing today can be solved,” she said. “When I was president in 2012, we managed to resolve critical shortages of foreign currency, fuel, and fertilizer. We restored stability in a short time.”

Banda also addressed the growing unemployment crisis among the country’s youth, pledging targeted interventions to empower them.
“Many young people in Malawi are unemployed. We will support them by providing bicycle taxis (kabaza), vocational training, and loans to enable them to create jobs for themselves, just like we did in the past,” she said.
Her remarks come as political momentum builds toward the upcoming elections, with candidates and parties outlining their visions for steering the country forward.
