At the Synod of Livingstonia CCAP general assembly, MCP 1st Deputy President Catherine Gotani Hara has stated that Malawians have no substantial reason to remove President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera from power.
Speaking over the weekend at Loudan Mission, Hara who is also the Speaker of Parliament suggested that any challenges should be addressed by providing guidance to the President rather than seeking his removal.
“My dear parents, we need to help president Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera in developing the country, challenges can be there but let us collectively focus on providing tangible solutions,” Hara said.
In contrast, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the North, Jappie Mhango, accused the government of victimizing the country’s vulnerable populations.
Mhango made these remarks on the sidelines of the Synod’s general assembly while addressing his party supporters, who were also present at the CCAP’s general conference to support him.
“The MCP government is continuing victimising the vulnerable populations, remember just so recently they even arrested the Synod’s church minister at Zolozolo in Mzuzu city,” said Mhango.
Meanwhile, the church’s general assembly deliberations will continue today, (Sunday), after an abrupt end to discussions on Saturday when the Synod’s general secretary broke down in tears, following accusations of bringing political divisions in the church.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Synod’s Moderator, Reverend Jairos Kamisa accused Tembo of creating divisions in the church.
“It is very sad to see how divided the church of God is today. Recently the General Secretary took some church ministers to meet the President at the State House, but without my knowledge and authority,” said Reverend Kamisa.
