The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on Sunday, 29 September 2024, held a vibrant political rally at Njewa Primary School grounds in Lilongwe, led by the party’s National Campaign Director, Hon. Richard Chimwendo Banda. The event attracted large crowds from across the district, as the party ramps up its political activities ahead of the 2025 elections.
In his speech, Chimwendo Banda emphasized the achievements of the MCP-led government under President Lazarus Chakwera, highlighting infrastructural development, improvements in the health and education sectors, and efforts to stabilize the economy. He urged Malawians to continue supporting the MCP, noting that the party remains committed to delivering on its promises to improve the lives of all citizens.
“We have worked tirelessly to fulfill the promises we made to Malawians during the 2020 elections. Our government has invested in key sectors like agriculture, education, and healthcare to ensure sustainable development. We are on track, and we ask for your continued support as we work towards building a better Malawi,” Chimwendo Banda said.
Chimwendo Banda also took the opportunity to address some of the challenges the country is facing, including the rising cost of living. He assured the crowd that the government is implementing measures to cushion the effects of inflation and stabilize the economy.
“We know that times are tough, but this government is working around the clock to find solutions. We have already seen signs of economic improvement, and we are committed to making sure that every Malawian feels the benefits of this progress,” he added.
The rally also served as a platform for Chimwendo Banda to attack the opposition, accusing them of engaging in baseless criticism and failing to provide constructive solutions. He urged the people of Njewa to reject the opposition’s negative politics and stand firm with the MCP, a party with a clear vision for the future.
Several local MCP leaders also spoke at the rally, expressing their confidence in the party’s leadership and its ability to secure another term in office. The event was marked by enthusiastic chanting and singing from party supporters, who reaffirmed their loyalty to Chimwendo Banda and the MCP.
As the 2025 general elections draw nearer, political activities across the country are intensifying, with the MCP continuing to strengthen its base through rallies like the one held at Njewa Primary School. The party’s leadership is focused on maintaining its support in key regions while addressing the concerns of Malawians as they prepare for the upcoming elections.
