Tour De Dwangwa Cycling Competition Set for November 17

Dwangwa Round Table 69 has announced the this year’s (2024) Tour De Dwangwa cycling competition, is scheduled for November 17 in NkhotaKota district.

The event aims to raise K60 million for constructing a security fence around Nkhotakota LEA Primary School,as one way of promoting safety for learners with various physical challenges.

Organizing chairperson Dyson Mpeketula confirmed Illovo Sugar Malawi’s sponsorship of K20 million, an increase from last year’s K15 million.

Mpeketula appealed for additional sponsors to partner in promoting community work anticipating more than 250 participants comprising professional and local cyclists in the male and female categories.

In his remarks, chairperson of the Malawi Cycling Federation Malumbo Kayira hailed Roundtable Dwangwa 69 for bankrolling the event which has turned into a flagship event used to identify athletes for international competitions.

“The flagship Tour de Dwangwa is now an event we used to identify athletes who took part in this year’s Zanzibar international cycling competition in Tanzania,” said Kayira.

The corporate sponsorships for Tour de Dwangwa are categorized as follows; Platinum K5 million, Gold K15-25 million, Silver K5-15 million and Bronze below K5 million with participants, registered at a fees of: Locals K5,000, Kabaza, K7,500) while professionals will need to cough K15,000

The competition Is split into several categories and the first 3 winners in the men and women categories will walk away with mouthwatering prizes to the tune of MWK450,000 for winner, 200,000 runner up and 100,000 for the 3rd position apart from some special categories for paracyclists just like the last year’s edition.
