In a show of respect and support for the UTM Party, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe purchased a portrait of the late Dr. Saulos Chilima for just over MWK 26 million at a recent fundraising gala. The event, held at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre, aimed to raise funds for the party’s upcoming convention, which will elect its leadership.
Kabambe’s bid narrowly outpaced that of Newton Kambala, another UTM leader and contender for the party’s top post, who placed a bid of just over MWK 25 million. Both leaders’ contributions reflect their commitment to the party’s legacy and goals as they vie for leadership.
The UTM Party hosted the gala with a fundraising target of MWK 150 million to ensure the success of its convention, scheduled to take place on November 17 in Mzuzu. The funds raised are expected to cover various logistical needs, enabling a smooth and inclusive leadership selection process.
