UTM party leader Michael Usi has expressed surprise over continued discussions about his role within the party, despite his earlier announcement that he would not be contesting at the party’s upcoming national convention.
Speaking upon his return from Azerbaijan, where he attended the COP29 summit, Usi remarked on the persistence of some party members to focus on him rather than preparing for their own candidacies.
“I already made it clear that I am not contesting, but these individuals keep monitoring my every move,” he said.
Usi further stated that those currently criticizing him for adhering to party regulations may eventually seek his guidance in the future.
The UTM is set to hold its much-anticipated national convention this Sunday in Mzuzu.
