120 golfers tee off at the Standard Bank Invitational Tournament in Lilongwe

The highly anticipated Standard Bank Invitational Tournament got underway on Saturday, drawing over 120 golfers to the scenic fairways of Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC). The tournament, part of the bank’s Be More golf series, is being played under the theme “Sustainable Swing,” a nod to Standard Bank’s commitment to promoting sustainable economic growth in Malawi.

Standard Bank Chief Executive, Phillip Madinga, set the tone for the competition with an impressive first putt on hole 1, sending his ball deep into the green fields with precision. Following closely behind were LGC Captain Maziko Kumbani and his Chairman, Webster Kaunga, who showcased their skills by drilling their shots forward with finesse, much to the delight of the onlookers.

“This highly anticipated event promises intense competition and unforgettable moments on the course, with over 120 golfers vying for top honours,” said Kumbani, reflecting the excitement surrounding the tournament.

The tournament forms part of Standard Bank’s Be More golf series, an initiative designed to promote sports, community engagement, and sustainable practices. The theme “Sustainable Swing” emphasizes the bank’s ongoing efforts to support economic growth that is both inclusive and environmentally responsible.

As the golfers teed off under perfect weather conditions, the tournament not only showcased exceptional skills on the course but also highlighted the bank’s commitment to fostering long-term economic stability in Malawi.
