In an exclusive interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), UTM presidential aspirant Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has boldly declared that he is confident of emerging victorious at the party’s ongoing convention in Mzuzu. The highly anticipated event has drawn party delegates and political enthusiasts from across the country as UTM charts its course for the 2025 general elections.

Speaking to Zodiak on the sidelines of the convention, Dr. Kabambe expressed optimism about his prospects, citing his vision for Malawi and the overwhelming support he has garnered within the party. “I am ready to lead UTM to greater heights and ensure that the party delivers on its promise of transformative leadership. The feedback from delegates has been phenomenal, and I am certain of victory,” he stated.

A former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor, Dr. Kabambe has positioned himself as a candidate who embodies reform and economic expertise. Throughout his campaign, he has emphasized the need for UTM to focus on rebuilding the economy, creating jobs, and addressing the pressing challenges facing Malawians.

Kabambe’s campaign has resonated with many UTM delegates who see him as a fresh and strategic leader capable of reinvigorating the party and challenging the dominance of the ruling coalition in the upcoming elections.

The UTM convention, which began earlier this week, has seen an intense contest for various leadership positions, including the presidency. While Kabambe is confident of victory, he faces stiff competition from other high-profile contenders, including Dr. Newton Kambala, Patricia Kaliati, and Michael Usi.

Delegates are currently casting their votes, with results expected to be announced later today. Party insiders report a vibrant atmosphere at the convention, with spirited debates and speeches from candidates highlighting their visions for the party and the nation.

The outcome of the UTM convention will shape the party’s direction as it prepares to contest the 2025 general elections. A victory for Kabambe would signal a shift toward a more economically focused leadership and could redefine UTM’s strategies for expanding its support base.

Political commentator Burnett Munthali believes Kabambe’s declaration of confidence is a calculated move to inspire his supporters. “Kabambe’s economic background and bold policy proposals make him a strong contender. His confidence reflects his understanding of the current political dynamics within UTM,” Munthali said.

As the convention progresses, all eyes remain on Mzuzu to see who will emerge as the next UTM leader. Regardless of the outcome, the convention underscores UTM’s democratic ideals and its commitment to fostering competition and debate within its ranks.

For Dr. Kabambe, the stakes are clear: victory would not only solidify his leadership within the party but also position him as a formidable contender in Malawi’s political landscape. For now, his confidence sets the tone for what promises to be a defining moment in UTM’s history.
