UTM leader Kabambe criticizes Chakwera over ministerial performance and governance failures

UTM leader Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has strongly criticized President Lazarus Chakwera, urging him to dismiss several key members of his cabinet and top officials for their alleged failures in managing critical sectors of Malawi’s economy and governance.

Kabambe singled out Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda, accusing him of failing to steer the country’s economy toward recovery. He also took aim at Agriculture Minister Sam Kawale, blaming him for the mismanagement of the Affordable Inputs Program (AIP) and the persistent fertilizer shortages that have affected farmers across the nation.

Furthermore, Kabambe stated that Energy Minister Ibrahim Matola, MERA CEO Henry Kachaje, and NOCMA CEO Clement Kanyama have failed to deliver in their respective roles, resulting in ongoing issues with electricity supply and fuel availability. “These three do not know what they are doing. They are clueless,” Kabambe asserted.

The UTM leader also criticized Chakwera for missing an opportunity to clearly articulate his government’s strategy for economic recovery during a recent public address. “Instead of presenting a roadmap for fixing the economy, he failed to do so, wasting a critical opportunity,” Kabambe said.

Kabambe expressed disappointment in Chakwera’s recent international engagements, noting that the President had visited nine countries in the past few months, primarily to seek aid. “You are embarrassing us. Admit that you have failed,” Kabambe declared.

The remarks highlight growing frustrations among opposition leaders over the government’s perceived inability to address Malawi’s economic challenges and ensure effective leadership in critical sectors.
