Phalombe South Shadow Member of Parliament for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Tiaone Hendry, has taken a significant step in improving healthcare and fostering unity in his constituency by donating an ambulance and launching a football league.
During a handover ceremony at Chiyaleni Primary School, Hendry highlighted the importance of timely access to healthcare. The ambulance, he said, would be available free of charge to help residents reach Chilembwe District Hospital in emergencies.
“This ambulance is a response to the community’s urgent need for better healthcare access. No family should lose a loved one because of transport delays. It is here to serve everyone, free of charge,” Hendry said.
Sub-Traditional Authority Nyambalo expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing its potential to save lives.
“This ambulance will reduce preventable deaths caused by delays in reaching the hospital. It’s a great relief to the community, and we thank Hendry for his foresight and generosity,” Nyambalo said.
In addition to the ambulance donation, Hendry launched a MK7 million football league to promote youth engagement and community interaction.
“Sports bring people together and inspire hope. This league is an opportunity to unite the community, nurture talent, and encourage healthy competition,” Hendry explained.
The football league will cater to teams across Phalombe South, with prizes aimed at encouraging participation and excellence.
The dual initiative underscores Hendry’s commitment to addressing both health and social challenges in his constituency. By prioritizing critical healthcare needs and providing recreational opportunities, Hendry continues to make strides in improving the lives of Phalombe South residents.
As the community welcomed these developments with enthusiasm, residents expressed hope that these initiatives would pave the way for sustained growth and collaboration in the area.
