As citizens who are passionate with our country and hold justice sacred, we must not turn a blind eye to the glaring injustices before us.
This is not a call born of politics; it is a plea born of principle. If we allow these issues to persist unchecked, history will remember us as the generation that allowed our democracy to be stolen in plain sight.
A Web of Compromises: The Truth About MEC and NRB
How can we trust the guardians of our electoral process when their independence is under siege? Consider these facts:
- Justice Annabel Mtalimanja
The current Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is none other than the daughter of the late John Tembo, a towering figure in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
How can she be expected to referee a game in which her family’s legacy and political party of her own ancestors is at stake?
- Mphatso Augustine Sambo
Once the MCP’s IT expert and architect of the parallel tally center in 2019, Sambo is now the CEO of the National Registration Bureau (NRB).
This is the institution that oversees the voter registration process—can we truly believe this process will be impartial?
- Andrew Mpetsi
Formerly the personal assistant to MCP President Lazarus Chakwera, Mpetsi now serves as the MEC CEO. His rise to such a critical position reeks of patronage and undermines the very foundation of free and fair elections.
Elections Rigged Before They Begin
When the institutions responsible for delivering democracy are compromised, the elections themselves are nothing more than a charade.
Let us not deceive ourselves—rigging starts not at the ballot box but in the preparation.
With voter registration already in progress, the biases and conflicts of interest in MEC and NRB make it impossible to trust this process.
Every citizen must ask: will the 2025 elections be free and fair, or are we walking into a trap set long before the first vote is cast?
Our Unyielding Demand
We, the people of Malawi, demand the following:
- An immediate reshuffling of MEC leadership, replacing compromised individuals with neutral, credible professionals.
- A complete halt to the current voter registration process, restarting under transparent oversight.
Boycott: The Ultimate Weapon of the People
If our demands are not met, we call upon all opposition parties, all candidates of integrity, and all citizens with a love for justice to boycott the 2025 elections. To participate in a rigged process is to legitimize corruption.
This is not just an election; it is a battle for the very heart of Malawi’s democracy
Malawians, remember this: “Evil triumphs when good people do nothing.”
We cannot wait for another generation to fight the battles we must fight today.
Let us not be silent while our democracy is strangled in broad daylight.
Let us act decisively, with unity and resolve.
