Karonga based rights activist Comrade Lytone Mangochi who was arrested by Police in Karonga in the middle of the night of 19th January, 2025 has been taken to the National Police Headquarters-Area 30 in Lilongwe for questioning.
Pastor Moses Shumba who is following up how Mangochi is travelling following his arrests in Karonga, said details of the charges are not yet established but some well -wishers have disclosed to him that Mangochi will be questioned of Comrade Mtanyiwa.
He said Mangochi is being suspected that he hosts Comrade Mtanyiwa at his home when he is visiting the northern region and in the central region at his house and that of Comrade Bon Kalindo expressing hope that after Mangochi, it will be the turn of Kalindo and him to enter Police cells.
Pastor Shumba has encouraged Malawians not to worry with the arrests of activists observing that activists and social media are giving pressure to the MCP making them fail to sleep but to find ways and means of silencing and intimidating them through arrests.
He has assured patriotic Malawians that God is not on the side of the MCP observing that they were given ample time to listen to the voices of constructive criticism but paid deaf ear saying this time God is angry with them.
The activist said the late Bingu wa Mutharika won the 2004 elections by chance and he proved to the people in his first term of office that he is capable of ruling Malawi saying this gave trust to Malawians to vote for him with a landslide victory in the 2009 elections.
“MCP and President Chakwera have failed in the first term, Malawians cannot be convinced that they will do better in 2025 to 2020 God has said a big “no” to the MCP,” said Pastor Shumba.
A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has advised the MCP that the war it has started of arresting activists after senior members of the opposition DPP will take the party to nowhere but shame to the MCP.
Kamphangala said the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) did not miss words that President Chakwera’s MCP is losing popularity even in its stronghold areas observing that it is doubtful that the party can bounce back into government on 16th September, 2025.
He said this could have been an opportunity for the party to start doing things better to win back the lost trust saying with five to six months to go to the elections, the party can perform miracles and not the miracles of arresting those with dissenting views.
“With the cases you are starting by arresting people, are you going to finish all the cases before the 16th September, 2025 elections,” questioned Kamphangala.
