In a bid to economically empower the community and foster self-reliance, independent parliamentary candidate for Mzuzu South-East, William Chikweta Kaweche, is sponsoring numerous youths and women in vocational training programs.
These initiatives are not only equipping individuals with essential skills but have also enabling some artisans to establish their own training institutions.
The vocational training programs, offered through Judie Foundation, covering a range of disciplines, including catering, carpentry, tailoring, and electrical installation also incorporates information technology (ICT) studies into its curriculum, ensuring that students are well-versed in the latest marketing trends.
Lukishan Moyo, Community Outreach Development Programmes Coordinator at Judie Foundation, praised Kaweche’s support, stating that it will have a direct positive impact on both individuals and the nation as a whole.
“Skills development is crucial for achieving Malawi’s Vision 2063, and Mr. Kaweche’s support is a significant step in this direction,” Moyo said.
Meanwhile, the initiative has already begun to bear fruit, with beneficiaries expressing gratitude for the opportunity to acquire new skills.
Cecilia Kapesa, a 38-year-old mother of four, was overwhelmed with emotion as she thanked Kaweche for supporting her tailoring and designing endeavours.
Junior Wingstone Mkandawire, principal at Golden Gift Skills Development Centre at Lupaso location in City, acknowledged Kaweche’s contribution to the government’s efforts in creating blue-collar jobs.
“Mr. Kaweche’s support complements government efforts through the Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational Training Authority’s (TEVETA) initiatives, ultimately contributing to sustainable socio-economic growth,” Mkandawire said.
In a separate interview, Kaweche expressed his commitment to continued support, emphasizing the importance of building a self-sufficient society.
“We need to empower our communities to support themselves in all aspects of socio-economic growth and development,” he concluded.
The initiative aligns with Malawi’s Vision 2063, which emphasizes the importance of quality skills and training in achieving sustainable development.
Modesto Gomani, Director of Programmes at TEVETA, highlighted the significance of vocational training in addressing the country’s shortfall of well-trained technicians and institutions.
“Malawi Vision 2063 is an inspiration for Malawian youth to be part of the country’s development agenda in playing a crucial role towards achieving the 2063 Agenda. Quality training and skilled labour are essential,” Gomani said, emphasizing the importance of innovation and the training process.
