Silver Strikers, the reigning TNM Super League champions, have announced the departure of their Nigerian forward, Friday Oriafo Osagie, just six months into his two-year contract. Osagie joined the club in August last year from Bangwe All-Stars, but failed to make a significant impact, scoring only two goals in the TNM Super League.

Osagie’s goals came in a 2-0 victory against Mighty Tigers on August 24, but he was unable to replicate this form in subsequent matches. Despite his limited success on the pitch, Osagie’s departure is still a significant development for Silver Strikers, who will now need to find a new striker to bolster their attack.

Osagie’s football career in Malawi began in 2022 when he joined Bangwe All-Stars, a team that was then playing in the lower divisions. He played a key role in the team’s promotion to the top-flight league, but was unable to prevent their relegation in the 2024 season.

Before joining Bangwe All-Stars, Osagie had played for several other teams in Malawi, including Ntopwa FC and Destiny FC. He also underwent trials at Mighty Wanderers, one of the biggest teams in the country.

Osagie’s departure from Silver Strikers is a reminder that the TNM Super League is a highly competitive league, and teams are always looking for ways to improve their squads. While Osagie’s time at Silver Strikers was short-lived, the team will now be looking to bring in a new striker who can help them defend their title.

The TNM Super League is one of the most popular sports leagues in Malawi, and it attracts a large following of fans who are passionate about their teams. The league is also an important platform for Malawian footballers to showcase their skills and potentially attract the attention of scouts from bigger teams.

In recent years, the TNM Super League has undergone significant changes, including the introduction of new teams and the improvement of facilities. The league has also become more competitive, with several teams challenging for the title each season.

As the TNM Super League continues to grow and develop, it is likely that we will see more players like Osagie coming to Malawi to play for teams like Silver Strikers. While Osagie’s time at Silver Strikers was short-lived, his experience in the TNM Super League will undoubtedly be valuable as he looks to continue his football career.

What’s Next for Silver Strikers?

The departure of Osagie leaves Silver Strikers with a gap in their attack that they will need to fill quickly. The team is currently in the midst of the TNM Super League season, and they will need to find a new striker who can help them defend their title.

One option for Silver Strikers could be to look to the local market for a new striker. There are several talented Malawian footballers who could potentially fill the gap left by Osagie.

Another option could be to look to the international market for a new striker. Silver Strikers have shown in the past that they are willing to look beyond Malawi for talented players, and they may do so again in their search for a new striker.

Whatever option Silver Strikers choose, they will need to act quickly to fill the gap left by Osagie. The TNM Super League is a highly competitive league, and Silver Strikers will need to be at their best if they are to defend their title.
