Rumphi West demands Chakwera’s apology on lies in Parliament

By Vincent Gunde

People of Rumphi West constituency have come together regardless of their political party affiliations demanding an apology from President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on the lies that were peddled publicly in a public House.

In his State of the National Address (SONA) delivered on Friday 14th February, 2025 President Chakwera took time outlining development projects in district by district undertaken by his government claiming that most of the projects were completed ones.

He said in Rumphi West constituency, the MCP government has completed development projects which include Kamphendo Health Centre, progress on the Rumphi-Nyika-Chitipa Road, Mortuary structures at Bolero Health Centre and Kanyerere Health Centre, among others.

The SONA has attracted mixed reactions from Malawians that were following the President speaking in Parliament with Parliamentarians from the government benches up on their chairs clapping hands and ululations that President Chakwera has delivered in his 5 years of power.

Rumphi West Parliamentarian Yona Adadawiza Mkandawire, was the first one to react through a video clip dismissing President Chakwera’s SONA as full of lies on the claims that such projects have not been completed and if completed, they are on paper.

In an open message to openly and publicly agree with Yona Adadawiza Mkandawire, signed by Reverend Maurice Munthali Rumphi West resident, says all the constituents in the area commend their Member of Parliament for what he said in the video clip circulating in the social media.

The constituents say their Member of Parliament was expressing serious and genuine concerns as where President Chakwera got the false information or why President Chakwera chose to lie to the people of Rumphi West.

They have condemned those who fed President Chakwera with such categorical lies, saying it is their prayer and hope that the President will swiftly follow up on this matter so as to verify what he said in his SONA and all those behind misleading him be taken to task publicly.

“Our people deserve an apology on the lies that have been peddled publicly in a public house through public media,” reads an open message in part.

The constituents say it should be noted that such misinformation from the whole state president have a very negative impact on the would-be voters and the trust they initially attached to President Chakwera saying the Rumphi West people deserve the truth and or tangible development and not empty words.

They have reminded President Chakwera that people of Rumphi West have cried enough already through empty promises all these years on development projects and have been subjected to more tears like sentencing them to doom and death.

The constituents say they do not need to keep begging for development projects because Rumphi West is part of Malawi and they deserve a fair share of the national cake expecting from President Chakwera a word of solace, truth and sincere apology on the matter.
