Liberation for Economic Freedom (LEF), a newly-formed political party, has announced plans to hold its first-ever elective convention on April 4, 2025.
The announcement was made today during a press briefing held at Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre, where party officials outlined their vision and roadmap ahead of the 2025 General Elections.
Speaking at the briefing, party spokesperson Aaron Silanga emphasized that the convention will be a crucial milestone for LEF as it seeks to establish a strong leadership structure.
He assured the public that all positions within the party will be contested, underscoring their commitment to a democratic and transparent electoral process.
According to Silanga, the party is determined to set itself apart from traditional political establishments by ensuring inclusivity and merit-based leadership selection.
Adding to the remarks, LEF’s chief whip, Ras Jerefaya, clarified the party’s stance on political alliances.
He stated that while they currently do not intend to partner with any other political party ahead of the September 16, 2025, General Elections, they remain open to discussions with like-minded political entities.
Jerefaya stressed that the party’s primary focus is to establish itself as a credible and independent force in Malawian politics, prioritizing policies that drive economic freedom and social justice.
The emergence of Liberation for Economic Freedom adds a new dynamic to Malawi’s political landscape, particularly at a time when voters are demanding fresh leadership and innovative solutions to economic challenges.
With its upcoming elective convention, the party is expected to define its leadership structure and strategic direction, setting the stage for its participation in the 2025 elections.
As the political season gains momentum, LEF’s approach to leadership selection and its stance on alliances will likely shape its appeal to the electorate.
Political analysts will be watching closely to see how the party positions itself in a highly competitive political environment.
The coming months will be critical in determining whether LEF can translate its vision into a viable political force capable of making an impact in the upcoming elections.
