The 14th registered political party in Malawi- Muvi wa Chilunamo, has described the State of the National Address (SONA) delivered by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in the National Assembly on Friday 14th February, 2025 as “null and void” and a farewell message of an outgoing President on the 16th September, 2025 elections.
In his SONA, President Chakwera said the citizenry victory over the dark forces, the task they have given him was to correct the decades –long mismanagement of natural and national treasures and institutions.
President Chakwera said the systemic surgery Malawians have undergone in the past 4 years has indeed been very painful saying he has enough trust in the Malawian people that they are fair minded enough to judge his performance as President by what he has done not by what other politicians say about him or by the disasters that have befallen Malawians.
Responding to Chakwera’s SONA, President and Commander in Chief of Muvi wa Chilungamo Revolutionary Party (MRP) Bantu Saunders Jumah said President Chakwera failed to give clear evidence to stop national plunder of public resources in the country.
Jumah said President Chakwera and his MCP government have increased national plunders through corruption, and looting of public funds observing that he came to stop DPP plunders not the plunder of himself, MCP ministers and senior government officials.
He said President Chakwera gave a wrong development image by outlining projects implemented by his government in the past 4 years which have exposed completed projects on paper but on the ground, there is nothing describing this as a shame to President Chakwera and his MCP government.
The MRP President has dismissed claims made by President Chakwera on the successes of the painful surgery observing that in 2020 Malawians never ate nyika, mpama- grass and chitedze saying food was available and affordable,
He said during his reign, maize has become the most expensive commodity, the price has reached over K100,000 per 50 Kilogram bag and is not available and the economic development is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as evidenced with shortages of fuel, forex and medicines in hospitals, among others.
“For 5 years, President Chakwera has not established any factory in Malawi only political rhetoric that he is delivering to the suffering Malawians,” said Jumah.
He has questioned President Chakwera that he is saying he has delivered in the 5 years he has been in government why he failed to mention in his SONA that the country has no food and fuel and their long term solutions?
Jumah has finally reminded President Chakwera and his MCP government that hungry people are angry people” with a warning that soon or later, Malawians will mobilize themselves, rise up and revolt against him.
