On Friday, February 21, 2025, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and his wife, Madame Professor Gertrude Mutharika, welcomed a delegation of pastors from the CCAP Blantyre Synod to their Page House residence for a special prayer session.
The gathering, which was also attended by DPP Presidential Spokesperson Hon. Shadric Namalomba, centered on prayers for good health, wisdom, and strength for the former president, as well as intercessions for the integrity of Malawi’s upcoming elections in September.
The pastors took the opportunity to express their gratitude to Professor Mutharika for heeding the call to contest in the elections once again.
They highlighted the dire economic and social conditions under the current administration, lamenting the escalating cost of living, deteriorating essential services, and deepening economic hardships faced by many Malawians.
In their prayers, they emphasized that Malawi could not afford another five years of what they described as failed leadership under President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration.
The spiritual leaders further stated that only Professor Mutharika possessed the experience, vision, and leadership required to steer the country out of its current difficulties.
They urged him to remain steadfast in his commitment to the nation and assured him of their continued prayers and support.
In response, Professor Mutharika expressed his deep appreciation for the visit and prayers.
He reassured the pastors that, just as he revived Malawi’s economy after the infamous Cashgate scandal in 2014, he was determined to once again restore economic stability and prosperity.
He underscored his unwavering commitment to serving Malawians and emphasized the importance of faith in overcoming the nation’s challenges.
“God will not forsake this country,” he assured them.
Mutharika’s message was one of hope and renewal, reflecting his confidence in reclaiming leadership and bringing back what he termed as “proven leadership.
” As the 2025 elections draw closer, his engagement with faith leaders signals a strategic move to consolidate support among religious communities, which have historically played a crucial role in Malawi’s political landscape.
With just months left before Malawians head to the polls, the political climate is intensifying.
As different political players position themselves for the crucial election, Mutharika’s endorsement by religious leaders may serve to bolster his campaign and solidify his appeal among voters seeking stability and economic revival.
