Behind the delays: The mystery of the Bushiri extradition ruling

By Burnett Munthali

On Wednesday, the Lilongwe Magistrate Court was set to deliver a crucial ruling in the high-profile extradition case of Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, Mary.

But what unfolded in court was anything but ordinary.

It was a day marked by unexpected delays, an unusual display of heavy police presence, and a cloud of uncertainty that left many wondering what was really happening behind the scenes.

The drama began the previous day when the court announced that the ruling would be delivered at exactly 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

However, by 5 a.m. on the day of the ruling, an abrupt change was made—the time was pushed to 2 p.m. without any explanation or prior warning.

When 2 p.m. arrived, the courtroom was filled with lawyers, journalists, and curious onlookers eager to hear the ruling.

Yet, another delay followed, this time pushing the ruling to 3 p.m., heightening tension and fueling speculation.

Questions began to circulate—why the hold-up? Was this just a scheduling mishap, or was there a more deliberate reason for the constant delays?

Then, at 3 p.m., an even more dramatic twist unfolded.

The courtroom was suddenly swarmed with heavily armed police officers, an unusual move that sent shockwaves through the gathered crowd.

The presence of security personnel in such numbers transformed the atmosphere of the court, making it feel more like a heavily guarded military zone than a place of justice.

Adding to the mystery, Magistrate Chimwaza was nowhere to be seen, leaving everyone restless and uneasy.

The wait dragged on, and as the clock ticked past 3 p.m., then 4 p.m., frustration and suspicion grew among those present.

Finally, at exactly 4:29 p.m., Chimwaza made an appearance, delivering a 28-minute ruling that, instead of bringing clarity, only deepened the uncertainty.

The content of the ruling itself was overshadowed by the bizarre sequence of events that had preceded it.

But the real story wasn’t in the ruling—it was in the strange and unexplained circumstances surrounding the day’s proceedings.

Why were there so many delays? Was this merely a case of disorganization, or was there something more calculated at play?

What prompted the authorities to deploy such a strong police presence?

Who gave the order for armed officers to flood the courtroom, and what exactly were they trying to prevent or control?

The Bushiri extradition case has always been about more than just legal technicalities—it is a story laced with power, influence, and hidden agendas.

The delays, the security measures, and the vague ruling suggest that this was not just a matter of law—it was a battle for control.

But the pressing question remains: who is pulling the strings?

As the dust settles, one undeniable fact stands out—this was not a typical day in court.

The sequence of events—the shifting timelines, the intimidating police presence, and the delayed ruling—all point to a deeper, more complex narrative.

What are the authorities hiding? What is truly at stake in this case?

The people of Malawi deserve transparency. They deserve to know the full story.

This isn’t just about Shepherd Bushiri.

This is about justice.

This is about the credibility of the judiciary and the trust that citizens place in the legal system.

The questions raised by Wednesday’s events cannot and must not be ignored.

We are watching.

We are demanding answers.

And we will not stop until the truth comes to light.
