Ex-convict arrested for theft
Police in Ntcheu have arrested a former Balaka Secondary School teacher, who is an ex-convict identified as Lonjezo Samalani, 34, and his accomplice 32-year-old Nickson Chiudza, for a series of break-ins at Mphate Trading Centre and surrounding areas.
Ntcheu Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Jacob Khembo, said according to files registered by the police, the duo has been terrorizing the areas from January to early December 2024.
“During the night of June 15 and 16, 2024, the two broke into one of the houses at Jecdec where Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) media team was lodging to cover the funeral of the late Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima at Nsipe.
“The suspects went away with two Lenovo laptops, five Lenovo note pads, type C portable monitor, external hard drive and some regalia,” said Khembo.

He said when interviewed, the duo revealed to have been behind the break-ins and went on to demonstrate how they committed the crimes.
According to Khembo, the duo admitted to have sold some items outside Ntcheu and police is yet to recover them.
Samalani, hails from Kamwendo Village while Chiudza hails from Nachiye Village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kwataine in Ntcheu.
